bethI’ve been a lifelong fitness enthusiast, having grown up playing various sports and trying a variety of fitness activities as I’ve gotten older. In early 2013, a friend asked me if I wanted to try a CrossFit workout with him. I had heard of CrossFit but didn’t really know what it was, so I was curious and I accepted his invitation and the rest as they say is history! I enjoy how each CrossFit workout is different, how quickly the workouts go by and how easily I can see and measure my progress. I became stronger and faster, my clothes fit better, I slept better and just felt better in general, and best of all, I developed strong friendships with the people I was CrossFitting with–something I could never say about the commercial gym I had been going to.
Even though I had a successful career as a Human Resources professional, I didn’t feel like it was my true calling in life. I realized that what I enjoyed most and had the most interest in was health and wellness. I had thought that one day I’d like to open a gym; but I didn’t know what kind of gym. Luckily I found CrossFit and realized I wanted to open a gym based on CrossFit principles–group classes with supportive community members performing constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements.
I love learning about health and fitness and I want to be the best coach possible for our members so I have invested in a lot of continuing education.

p-j-ellisSports and athletics has always been a focus of mine. In high school it was cross country, basketball and baseball. If I wasn’t participating in one of those sports, you could find me in a game of ping-pong, bowling, billiards, or any other back yard activity, all of which I took very seriously! Since then, I have ran a Marathon and a few other long distance races, but still find time to compete in back yard sports. One winter when I couldn’t run on the treadmill a minute longer, I had to find something different. So, I went to six CrossFit introductory classes and not only did I love it, but also found the functional movements I had been doing my whole life fit perfectly with the workouts. Every class is a little different which keeps it interesting; it wasn’t long before I was addicted. I have since gone on to learn more about CrossFit philosophy, earn my CrossFit Level 1 trainer certification, and continue to work on my own personal strength goals.

dreI have been a competitive athlete most of my adult life. I have competed with the Washington DC Furies Women’s Rugby team since 1999. I continued my rugby career with the Mid Atlantic All Star Women’s Rugby team and eventually made it to the United States Women’s National Rugby team. I’ve played competitive rugby all over the world, including South Africa and Australia. I discovered my love for coaching when I joined the Mid Atlantic All Star Rugby team coaching staff in 2006. I have been an active rugby coach for college and women’s clubs since then. CrossFit was a natural progression from rugby. I’ve been participating and competing in CrossFit since 2012 and coaching since 2015. My favorite part of CrossFit is helping people develop into athletes and realizing how strong they really are.

vascoI love CrossFit and I love training and coaching people. I have been CrossFitting since 2011.
I am a lifelong exerciser with an athletic background in football, baseball, wrestling, and sprinting. I started training solely to improve my athletic performance. When I wasn’t competing, I wasn’t training – after my athletic career ended, I stopped exercising for a few years. It was during my collegiate inactivity that I realized the enormous health and wellness benefits of exercise and seeking fitness.
You cannot build a house on a weak foundation. I fundamentally believe that optimizing your physical self directly translates into an optimization of all other areas of life. Build the body and everything falls in place. I want to help people build a strong foundation.

nickGrowing up as a soccer player and swimmer I always really enjoyed the structured and community environment that sports teams were able to offer. After hitting a wall with my own personal workouts, the daily struggle of finding motivation and variety, I decided to take my uncles’ offer up on a session at their CrossFit gym and have been hooked ever since! Having a great community to work out with has made all the difference in motivation and keeping fitness fun. With 5 years and counting of swim coaching experience, I hope to bring the same values of excitement and team building to you guys at CFH.
