Sports and athletics has always been a focus of mine. In high school it was cross country, basketball and baseball. If I wasn’t participating in one of those sports, you could find me in a game of ping-pong, bowling, billiards, or any other back yard activity, all of which I took very seriously! Since then, I have ran a Marathon and a few other long distance races, but still find time to compete in back yard sports. One winter when I couldn’t run on the treadmill a minute longer, I had to find something different. So, I went to six CrossFit introductory classes and not only did I love it, but also found the functional movements I had been doing my whole life fit perfectly with the workouts. Every class is a little different which keeps it interesting; it wasn’t long before I was addicted. I have since gone on to learn more about CrossFit philosophy, earn my CrossFit Level 1 trainer certification, and continue to work on my own personal strength goals.
I’ve been a lifelong fitness enthusiast, having grown up playing various sports and trying a variety of fitness activities as I’ve gotten older. In early 2013, a friend asked me if I wanted to try a CrossFit workout with him. I had heard of CrossFit but didn’t really know what it was, so I was curious and I accepted his invitation and the rest as they say is history! I enjoy how each CrossFit workout is different, how quickly the workouts go by and how easily I can see and measure my progress. I became stronger and faster, my clothes fit better, I slept better and just felt better in general, and best of all, I developed strong friendships with the people I was CrossFitting with–something I could never say about the commercial gym I had been going to.
Even though I had a successful career as a Human Resources professional, I didn’t feel like it was my true calling in life. I realized that what I enjoyed most and had the most interest in was health and wellness. I had thought that one day I’d like to open a gym; but I didn’t know what kind of gym. Luckily I found CrossFit and realized I wanted to open a gym based on CrossFit principles–group classes with supportive community members performing constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements.
I love learning about health and fitness and I want to be the best coach possible for our members so I have invested in a lot of continuing education.
